HYDERABAD: Cardiologists of Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) have successfully performed a complicated non-invasive heart surgery on a-44-year-old woman B. Vijaya Gouri, hailing from Ongole. The NIMS doctors claimed that they have managed to open up a fully blocked left artery of the heart through coronary angioplasty.

The cardiologists opted to do a small incision in the leg to send the balloons and stents to unclog the artery. “We have managed to dilate or widen the narrow artery with good results,” Head of the Cardiology wing of NIMS Dr. Seshagiri Rao, told media persons on Monday.

The doctors informed that Vijaya had a history of heart ailments with regular arterial blockage leading to paralytic strokes.

“She recently suffered another paralytic stroke. The local doctor asked us to rush her to Hyderabad immediately,” Vijaya’s husband, a mechanic with APSRTC said.

Due to her critical state, minimally invasive technique of balloon angioplasty was used.

“It is common to take up such surgeries. But in this case, the artery was completely blocked. Dr. A.N. Patnaik, Dr. Brajaraj Das and Dr. Suresh were involved in it.
